How to Install Etcher?

Install Etcher on macOS

  • Download and install Etcher from Etcher.net
  • Double-click the .dmg file. (Note: follow the Etcher setup wizard)
  • Drag → Ether App to your Application folder
  • Double click to open it 
  • Attach SD card → Mac (Note: Etcher will select it automatically)
  • Click → Flash (Note: to write the image file to the SD card)

Install Etcher on Windows

  • Download and install Etcher from Etcher.net
  • Double-click the .exe file. (Note: follow the Etcher setup wizard)
  • Run → Etcher in Administration Mode 
  • Right, click → Etcher and choose ‘Run as administrator.’

  • Download → App Image file from the Etcher website.
  • Open → terminal window and enter:

cd Downloads

Download your OS image

  • Download → a copy of the latest Raspbian image from the Downloads page.
  • Unzip the file → after it has downloaded
  • Double-click → The file in Linux
  • Etcher Install directly → from a ZIP file.

Select the image

  • Click → Select Image in Etcher. (Note: Use the file manager window and locate the image you unzipped in the previous step.)
  • 2. Click → Open button (Important Note: The image will appear under Select Image, and Connect a drive will highlight red.)

Insert your SD card

  • 1. Attach SD card → Computer (Note: Etcher will select it automatically.)
  • 2. Click → Flash

Writing the image

  • Etcher → Format the SD card (Note: before writing and verifying the image; this is shown by a progress bar.)
  • Remove → the SD card, insert into → Rasberry Pi and power it up. (Note: If you want to flash another SD card with the same image, insert it and click use same Image.)
